Responsibility of Leadership

Guiding the Alice Independent School District toward excellence is the goal of the seven-member Alice ISD Board of Trustees. As the district's elected leaders, trustees represent community expectations as they strive and select educational programs and services and establish the standard by which success is measured.

Trustees employ the superintendent, approve the budget and monitor expenditures, set the tax rate, and may call for a bond or tax rate election. The board also establishes policies for operating the district and ensuring its financial viability.

Alice ISD Board Meetings

The Alice ISD Board of Trustees generally meets on the second Monday evening of the month at Alice ISD Administration Building in the Board Room at 2 Coyote Trail, Alice, TX 78332.

Agendas are posted at the Alice ISD Administration Building 72 hours prior to the regular meet, special meeting, and public hearing. Also, in case of an Emergency Meeting district will post at least two hours before the meeting.

Here are the types of board meetings and when they are: • Regular Meetings are on the second Monday of the month. • Special Meetings as called by the Board President. • Public Hearings • Emergency Meetings
NOTE: Check the District Calendar, District Website, and Facebook Page for any changes to board meetings. Alice ISD board meetings are open to the public. Within the limits of the Texas Open Meetings Act, however, parts of board meetings, such as consideration of real estate transactions, personnel matters, student hearings, and legal matters, may be closed to the public.

Public Comment Policy at Regular Board Meetings Members of the community are invited to address trustees during the public comment period at regularly scheduled Board meetings. Those who wish to speak during Public Comment may sign in before the meeting.

Every regular board meeting includes 30 minutes for public comment. Each speaker is allotted five minutes. Speakers are called in the order in which they signed up.

Speakers will be asked to provide the following information: The subject to be addressed, speaker’s name, telephone number, and, if applicable, the group or organization the speaker represents.

Public Hearings The board may schedule public hearings to gather input on a particular subject. The day of the Public Hearing board meeting. Board Service Members are elected to a four-year term of office. On a rotating basis, board seats are filled during a joint election with the City of Alice which is held in May. Vacancies are filled by appointment until the next election. Candidates must conform to the eligibility requirements of the Texas Election Code. The president, vice president, and secretary are elected by the other members of the board. Trustees provide public service to the Alice community without financial compensation.

District Policies District policies are revised as needed to reflect changes in federal or state law, Texas education guidelines, and local options. Policies posted online are generally current, however, delays of up to 30 days may occur before newly adopted policies appear.

Operating Procedures The Alice ISD Board of Trustees adopts operating procedures to guide the organizational, logistical, and role-specific activities related to the work of the board.
