Welcome to Alice ISD Unified Sports Program
Alice Independent School District (ISD) is committed to fostering an inclusive environment through its Unified Sports program. This initiative brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same team, promoting social inclusion and acceptance. Unified Sports participants engage in various activities, including basketball and track, to enhance physical fitness, develop skills, and enjoy the spirit of competition.
Superintendent Dr. Anysia Trevino has emphasized the district's dedication to expanding opportunities for all students by introducing Unified Sports. In her message, she highlighted that general education and special education students compete alongside each other in basketball and track, with these sports being sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). This structure allows teams the opportunity to advance to state-level competitions.
The mission of Alice High School aligns with this inclusive approach, aiming to "Prepare, Empower, and Produce Lifelong Learners." By participating in Unified Sports, students not only improve their physical abilities but also develop leadership skills and foster meaningful relationships, contributing to a more inclusive school culture.
Overall, Alice ISD's Unified Sports program exemplifies the district's commitment to inclusivity, providing equitable opportunities for all students to participate in athletic activities and promoting a sense of community within the school.
