Alice ISD is committed to the safety of all our students and our community. We have taken measures to prevent youth drug use and ensure that Naloxone is available to be administered by trained staff in the event of an overdose in compliance with SB 629.
WHAT IS NALOXONE?
Naloxone is an opioid antagonist used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose when a person is experiencing respiratory depression or unresponsiveness.
WHAT IS AN OPIOID?
Opioids are a class of drug often referred to as narcotics used to treat pain. Opioids even when prescribed are addictive and can have potentially harmful effects. The most severe effect of opioid use includes severe respiratory depression that can lead to death if not reversed.
Opioids Examples:
Morphine, Codeine, Methadone, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Fentanyl, Buprenophine, Oxymorphone, Tramadol.
Common Illegal Opioids:
Heroin
Fentanyl
